Super-foods from you Supermarket


Every year we're offered a new bundle of super- foods - food with nutritional value relevantly higher than the average foods we are used to. Usually, these foods come from some far off place and also have an equally exotic price, meaning to receive their value you will need to dip deep in your pocket.

In fact, it often seems like these foods are merely ones to be seen with in your shopping basket, or to have at your next dinner party. However, did you know there are a number of everyday foods you probably already eat that could gain the terms 'super - food'. So, what are the super healthy foods we already eat?

Baked Beans

For many of us the only portion of baked beans we have is with our fried breakfast, or with some egg and chips. However the humble baked bean is fill of nutrition and renowned as a great source of iron, calcium and protein. They also contain a very high amount of fibre and so are great for moving through the digestive tract. They also produce fatty acids which help the intestine walls and protect against damage. Bananas

One of the best of all fruits, is in fact a herb. It contains such additions as trytophan which aids sleep as well as slow releasing carbs. It is also a great source of vitamin B6 ,which helps nails and hair as well as to beat stress. It is even known to help with blood pressure and prevent heart disease. It's easy to fit in with other food and also tastes great alone.

Beetroot

Beetroot is an amazingly potent super - food and can be grown in your garden quite easily. It contains a large number of benefits and is a great food in the fight against strokes and coronary heart disease. It is also full of antioxidants and helps with cholesterol problems. As it is high in folic acid it is great for pregnant women. Try it with some carrot and apple during the summer for a delicious drink. during the summer.

Broccoli

You may have had bad experiences with this wonder vegetable in your youth, but we're telling you to give it another chance as it's a great food for health. Broccoli is rich in anti cancer causing agents and also has a number of bacteria that help prevent stomach cancers and gastric ulcers. In women it is known to lower the incidence of breast cancer and as it's high in potassium and beta carotene is fantastic for fighting against heart disease too. In fact as foods go, you'd have to travel up and down the Amazon Basin a few times before you would find anything that is nearly as good for you.

Though, you're probably bombarded with the latest super-foods in health magazines and elsewhere, you're own green grocer can be just as good for finding these nutritional vegetables and fruits.
