Internationally Acclaimed Irish Foods


Irish food is famed the world over for its quality and its taste and has received a lot of acclaim worldwide. With much of the country's food being produced on the country's farms and lots made from very natural high quality ingredients, it is of little wonder that we are seen as a great country for grub worldwide.

Our history as a nation has seen numerous foods come to the fore. So, what are the country's most famous foods and why are they so acclaimed?

Irish Beef

Ireland is well renowned for its farming and no food is more acclaimed than its beef. Travel world wide and much of the beef in many of the world's restaurants is from Irish stock.The array of green land across the country is certainly part and parcel of the country's famed cattle, as is the level of enthusasism for farming, which when compared to other countries is of a very high standard. Irish farmer's knowledge of rearing cattle and breeds has meant we produce some of the best meat in the world. Deals in Ireland on steak are quite common - so be sharp.

Irish Pudding

Whether it's black or white pudding, Irish pudding is known around the world. Though not nearly as badly perceived as haggis, probably as it's not boiled in a sheep's stomach, pudding is still a little bit of an acquired taste. It is often found people will only go to a local butcher they know for this piece of the Irish breakfast, however Clonakilty pudding with its array of oats is very popular abroad and seen as the essential addition to an Irish breakfast, along with soda bread.

Soda Bread

Interestingly, soda bread is another one of the country's famed foods and one people seem to want to travel near and far to get. The tough, but tasty texture is ideal for frying and an Irish breakfast is not complete without this great bread. Add a few sausages and a free range egg, with a soft yolk for dipping and you're in heaven.

Tayto Crisps

There's something about Tayto crisps and we're talking of the southern variety, not the Northern Irish equivalent. Tayto are famed with creating the cheese and onion crisp and many people wouldn't touch another of the variety. These crisps have a recipe famed the world over and go to a pub in Sydney, New York, or elsewhere and you'll see punters lning up for the famed crisp. In fact, the Tayto is so much of an ingrained part of our lives, its spokesperson Mr Tayto, who wrote an autobiography, saw his book rocket to number one book in the Irish book charts a couple of years back - shame it was fiction and that he's merely an illustrated crisp wearing a jacket, perhaps how Ireland deals with the trauma of economic melt down?

Guinness

Where would we be without the black stuff, which must be included in any list of Irish foods. Over 250 years old now and still going strong Guinness is one of the most associated things with Ireland. The brand is still situated at St James Gate in Dublin, but is a world wide name and has all sorts of t-shirts, clothing and other paeaphenalia to its name. Guinness is an acquired taste and has a two part pour - something that has confused many a foreigner and irritated many an Irish man. There is also a 1minute and 19 second wait for the perfect pint of the drink - something many can't get their heads around. It does however show that the best things in life are definitely worth waiting for.

Irish food and drink is a hearty and simple affair that reflects the unpretentious nature of its people. Unlike many otehr nations however, it is good quality food, that has fresh ingredients and hundreds of years of history at heart. That's perhaps why its revered the world over by both ex pats and foreigners alike. At home or abroad you'll find most of the above with a quick search for the local Irish pub - which usually isn't very far - keep an eye out for deals Ireland for some of this great, tasty grub.
