The post-PC world is here, or so they say, and tablets are
at the fore of consumer technology. With the likes of the iPad coming down in
price, the arrival of a number of high quality cheap alternatives, there's
nothing to stop the tablet replacing many of the netbooks and other devices we
are used to using.
One of the great things about tablets is their portability
and also the fact if you purchase a 3G device that you can insert a Sim card to
that effect and remain connected wherever you go. This allows you to work, stay
online and indulge on all the fantastic things the Internet allows on your
tablet anywhere you go. So, what should you look for when choosing which
mobile broadband for your tablet?
Data
Allowance
Decide on whether you will be using your tablet for constant
use on the go, or will you be using it over a Wi-Fi connection and need a 3G
network now and again. This can dictate the size of the data allowance you want
and the price you will pay. This is an important factor and one that can give
you the freedom of a tablet wherever you are. It is also essential you choose a
large enough data allowance as otherwise you may end up going over and having
to pay the often large extra fees for use.
Coverage
Look into the areas you most use the tablet or intend to use
it over a 3G network and then see if these areas are covered by particular
networks. Otherwise you will run into problems and have little or no coverage,
which aside from being frustrating limits the amount of apps and functions you
can use.
When you compare broadband also look at the sort of coverage
offered. Some, coverage is better than others. For instance GPRS coverage is a
lot slower than 3G coverage, so if it comes down to choosing always be aware
there is a difference.
Cost
Of course, when you decide on the size of the data allowance
you require and are sure that the areas you will be using the tablet in largely
have coverage, and then you can look at all the deals and offers online.
There is often a variation in the offers and the price of
your 3G mobile broadband and you should make sure to compare broadband to
ensure that it fits the bill.
Also look into the length of the contract in this area as
this can vary when you compare mobile broadband.
Choosing between 12 months, 18 months and 24 months is common, with the former
giving you more flexibility if you are not happy.
You can also use a pay as you go option if you feel you won't
use 3G that often and would like to just have the option should it arise.
So, compare broadband and choose carefully and you will be
more than happy.
