Weird Beauty Treatments

People go to some extravagant lengths to look great and some of the things people do to look great are a real testament to the human obsession with looking beautiful and staying young. However, it seems that for every ten moisturisers there are some far crazier options to keep you looking great and ensure you remain beautiful.

In the olden days people used all sorts of aids. From the Egyptians who used to place crocodile dung on their faces to others who used to use lead based face masks, there's no end to human weirdness in beauty terms. Here are some of our favourites you won't see on Wahanda.

Snake Venom Cream

The toxins that are made in the poisons of some of the world's deadliest snakes are often included in some of the world's most expensive facial creams. The theory is that the venom paralyses the muscles and causes it to produce a similar effect to Botox and other similar treatments. The whole procedure however is meant to be less invasive than the aforementioned and is taken from farmed cobras from Brazil. These snakes are milked for venom for use in this strange and dangerous seeming treatment.

Placenta Wrinkle cream

Another of the one's you're less likely to see in the London deals pages, but Placenta cream is created from bovine placenta and us meant to moisturise the skin and prevent wrinkles. Some company's even use the plant placenta and even human placentas. The trend is now around for over 80 years and it is thought that the nutrient rich piece of the anatomy has a number of hormones that benefit cells. In some cases this is seen as an unproven medical claim and the creams are not available in many countries in the world.

Bull Semen Hair Treatment

Looking for shiny smooth hair, well this could be the answer. Why not ask your hair dresser to massage this substance in your hair. Better again wait for a Wowcher deal to come along with such a treatment. The logic is that hair is made from protein and bull semen can add a protective layer around the hair and keep it healthy. Of course, it's a bit weird but it is the ultimate source of concentrated protein. Will you go to such lengths for beauty?

Bird Poo Facial

We've already mentioned the Egyptians and poo, now it's the turn of the Japanese. This massage therapy for the face made from nightingale droppings and an enzyme found in it called guanine is the perfect item for exfoliating the skin. It's been used by geishas for hundreds of years and though not Oil of Olay, is very popular. It costs a pretty penny too and you may pay up to £150 for the treatment. However, your face may end up smoother and softer than ever before.

Leech Therapy

Looking for a detox, well using leeches is a new way to do so. These leeches have been used for nearly 1000 years to detox people and also help people recover from surgery. From varicose veins to blood clots, these leeches are said to help by stimulating blood flow and aid recovery. It's a bit adventurous mind you and you'll have to go to Austria to have it done - not for London deals so.

Snail Slime

Snails regenerate their shells through the slime they use and their cream is often used as part of creams for regeneration. The creams are used for everything from acne to stretch marks and have a range of antioxidant and antibacterial qualities. It's the perfect answer to snail's problems and the perfect way to get your face back in shape, albeit in a quite unorthodox manner.
