HTC One X vs Samsung Galaxy

Like Best and Pele, Nadal and Federer and Senna and Prost, there's always going to be different opinions on whose better at something. These days one of the biggest points of comparison is the smart phone and though we're not having the iPhone against Android debate again, there still is a score to settle.

The two new quad core HTC and Samsung phones, the One X and Galaxy SIII respectively provide the debate - so which is better?

Well on paper the two devices look quite similar - quad core processors, big displays and an Android Ice-cream sandwich operating system. However, when you look closer there are strengths and weaknesses and which mobile plan they are on you might be inclined towards one of the phone deals over another.

Screens

Both devices have large screens, though the SIII just shades it with a 4.8 to the One's 4.7inch display, however in weight the match point goes to the HTC as it weighs 3g shy of the 133g Samsung. The HTC and Samsung also look quite different and the latter is softer with curved edges, the HTC though is more traditional and comes with the infamous HTC unibody aluminium body from one piece of metal. The Samsung is made from a polycarbonate plastic and but the HTC does feel that bit sturdier for its troubles when you compare phones.

Performance

Though the One X has a bigger 1.5GHz quad core chip to that of the 1.4GHz Samsung, results show it is fact slower in benchmarking. Not that this makes a significant difference as both phones are capable of doing everything from streaming HD video to running multiple apps and games at once.

These processors look impressive and future proof the phones, while also provide sufficient power for the hefty displays.

The HTC has a slightly higher pixel density, though its AMOLED screen looks fantastic, though that said both are pretty awesome looking displays.

Operating Systems

Both devices run the same Android 4.0 operating system, though there are differences as Samsung and HTC bot had their own takes. Samsung's Touchwiz and HTC's Sense offer different Android experiences. HTC's is barer than Samsung's and has less of a mix of the good and bad. Samsung does have some silly pointless additions, but also has cool ones like its Siri competing S Voice service - which is cool but not as comprehensive as Siri. Other Samsung additions like its NFC based S-Beam service for sending data quickly are good. But there's a lot of junk on there too and the HTC shades it by just being straighter to the point and of the few apps and additions it offers, nearly all are excellent.

Camera

Both devices have 8mp rear cameras with 1.3mp frontal cameras for voice calling. Both are quite similar and the SIII may offer slightly better lower light images, however it's the focus that did it for us and the Samsung nailed focus faster than the HTC.

HTC's camera is quite cool though and allows you to take photos when videoing in HD and also to take 99 shot bursts of images by just holding down the camera button - which is quite cool. So, the choice is great photos vs. very good photos with amazingly cool tech.

Battery

One of the biggest issues with smart phones is battery life and when compared on benchmarks the SIII comprehensively beat the HTC. Advantage Samsung!

The Samsung also allows you to expand memory up to 32GB on top of its 16GB internal memory - the HTC doesn't, but does come with 32GB of memory. Both come with 25GB Dropbox cloud allowances for files which is great for data on the go.

Overall

All in all both are great phones and as you'd expect there's little if anything to choose between them. However, when you compare phones the Samsung just takes it. Though the HTC is awesome and has a great camera and phone deals, the Samsung is faster, has better battery life and is just a great phone. However, it's really down to personal preference, there's just that little in it. So, take your time, research and choose the phone of your deals.
