The Pastimes of Boys and Men

Getting out and about with the boys in an environment that allows you a certain amount of devilment is something of a necessity. We all need to blow off steam and fortunately, city deals allow us to do it nowadays at a lower cost than was previously the case.

Amazingly, being a lad means doing the same things you did as a child, generally only with a motor, engine or more power behind you. The expectation we've all matured can often be taken with a pinch of salt, but then again, let it! So, what are the best activities for big boys?

Track Days

When we were small many of us had a toy plastic tractor or a pedal go cart we used to speed around our homes on. There was a certain Grand Prix feel of over taking your cousin beside the gable of the house. Nowadays we have track days from Livingsocial deals, which allow you to turn that Matchbox car you once owned into a reality.

Track days are amazing for a number of reasons. Firstly, they allow you to get behind a car you may not earn enough for in five years. They also allow you the chance to thrash around a track you may have seen Michael Schumacher last on and take corners you've heard about since boyhood.

Finally, and most importantly, they also allow us to feel a sensation of speed we otherwise would never experience under our control. It's all very well doing 75mph down the dual carriageway in a Vauxhall Vectra; however doing so in a Ferrari on a track is a different story and an exciting one too.

Paint Balling

From sticks, to plastic guns with flint behind a piece of red semi-transparent plastic; we've all played army in different ways. Paint balling is army for big boys and really is a different dynamic from that of sticks and imaginary bullets

From kitting yourself out in overalls and a helmet to getting a gun that fires ammunition, to shooting your mates, it's very different. However, for most of us the same sensation takes over and we find ourselves giddy with delight as we run around from place to place, shooting people with neon coloured paint capsules and playing get the flag.

For those who love paint balling city deals can be a great way to do so cheaply. Many places waive nearly the entire initial fee and you only have to pay for the bullet, which of course means the meaner the shot the less you have to pay.

Beer Tasting

What is there more masculine than beer - the nectar of the gods according to some and they're probably right. Going on a beer tasting trip with your friends is the logical leap from trying to decipher whether you preferred Lilt or Fanta.

With so many new beers arriving every year from around the world; beer tasting is an exercise for the gentleman - well the first few anyway.

From super strong Belgian beers to African ones, there's so much to try and so much to taste. Take for instance the beers that specialise in being as strong as or stronger than spirits, or beers than are infused with fruit - you'd nearly be giddy at the thought of it. It's a great way to spend some time with your mates and whether it's trying it out with Dublin deals in Ireland or in any of the other cities around - it's a great day out and often the start of a fantastic night on the town.

It's only natural to get out and about with the lads for some fun and a bit of manly behaviour. Fortunately, for many of us our tastes aren't too complex and we can manage to really suffer on with little more than a slight change from our boyhood pastimes, albeit as we said with a bigger engine or a higher alcohol content.
