How to Reduce Fuel Consumption

We're all more than well aware of the cost of fuel and more than conscious that it continually seems to be rising rather than falling. Such factors ensure that we are all only too happy to find ways of reducing the burden of having to pay for fuel by driving more carefully.

Saving money can be quite easily achieved with a few tweaks and you'll soon have far better d3als on travelling. So, what are the simplest ways to reduce fuel consumption?

Lighter Loads

If you have a car that is full to the brim with people and heavy objects, it is going to be harder to pull and also a strain on the engine. This means that you will end up burning more fuel and have to pay more money when doing so. There are a number of things to watch out for.

Avoid carrying items such as bicycles and luggage racks on your roof. These will add weight and also drag to the car, which can really add to the fuel consumption. Many people also fill their boots with all sorts of items. Remove these if you can and don't carry them around for months as they also cause extra fuel to be consumed. Less fuel even helps and means you aren't carrying as much weight. Obviously we're talking more around the half full mark than fumes.

Gearing

The gears you choose are also part of the amount of fuel you use and if you cruise along in a good gear for your speed you will be less inclined to burn fuel. Always change up if you can and try and cruise along smoothly rather than gnash through the gears as this will cause issues with fuel. Think of how your car sounds when running smoothly at 60mph rather than in traffic changing gears. This reflects greatly on the amount of fuel burned.

Tuning and Services

Bring your car into be serviced at regular intervals as this will ensure that your car is performing to its optimum ability. Keep consumption as low as possible by ensuring that the car has been tuned to run at its smoothest. This will prevent the burning of excess fuel. Cleaning air filters or even replacing them, as well as other parts of the car can also increase consumption and ensure that your car is getting optimum fuel return.

Cleaner Cars

Cleaner cars also save money and reduce the amount of drag, which can actually save you money over the period of a year. This is a real benefit and also means you have a shinier and tidier looking car. So, get out the wax and some elbow grease and get going.

Speed

Did you know that driving at 80mph uses around 25% more fuel than driving at 10mph less according to the AA. Speeding is both illegal and also bad for your fuel usage, so why not go a little slower and not have to waste fuel meaning you have a deal of the day, everyday

Technology

There are a number of free applications out there for iPhone and Android that allow you to see where and when there are traffic jams. These apps give you the fastest and smoothest route to wherever you wish to go and can really benefit you and your driving. By not having to struggle through traffic jams you receive a smoother ride and one that will ensure you don't have to burn up your expensive petrol when waiting in traffic jams.

Petrol App

There are also a number of great apps that will show you the deal of the day when it comes to petrol and reduce costs. These apps will ensure you find the nearest and lowest costing pump closest to you, which saves you time and money. Most of these apps come with maps and other elements that make them easier to find and allow you to save money. There are some great London deals if you look around.
