How to Prevent your House Design from Dating

They say style lasts for ever, but fashion doesn't and your home can be a great reflection of this. Many of our houses have let us say suffered because of a mixture of fads and age and a lot of us still have a hint of avocado paint somewhere in the home. The most interesting thing this goes to show is the fine line between a fad and a fashion.

However, it is possible to update your home without it looking dated in the longer term; this is of course the smartest way to design. So, why not grab one or two ideas from below and update your pad for the better.

The Worst

Fads of the past are the cringe inducing, blinding monstrosities of today and there are plenty still around. Many homes still have their own coloured bathroom suites and weird psychedelic rugs and carpets. Some even have the black ash wood of the 80s lurking around here or there and many still hold the laminate flooring of nowadays below their feet. Some would suggest that the love of the 1950s that is common nowadays will soon be part of the same mind set.

Play it Safe

One of the best ways to play it safe is to go a little off trend when it comes to the more expensive things. Use sites such as Cork Deals and others to get the on trend stuff at a low price and purchase stylish, unfashionable kitchens and expensive furniture. This ensures that the home won't date to a significant degree. Classic carpets, kitchens and bathroom suites are the way forward if you want your home to look great and last for the long term.

Be Classic

The same applies to furniture and if you are inclined to purchase home ware that is too busy with the patterns of the day, then you will be in for trouble. Simple and classic shapes are enduring and classic lines will last. This is the case for blinds, sofas and all additions to the home. Remember that patterns date almost each season and so after no time at all you'll find yours in the junk heap and on the way to the bin.

Opt for the neutral and the simple and you will find the item still looking well and in your living room in decades to come.

Colour is Important

No home should be without its quirks and we have already suggested using Galway deals and other sites such as Grab One to make the most of the modern day, on-fashion trends. This allows you the perfect mixture of both and ensures you get the cool of today with a style that will last a time.

Paint is one of the most important things here and can be easily changed and so will manage to aid the ease of changing a room. Use the general rules of colour, sparing dark tones for large areas you want to make cosy and using light colours for the creation of an impression of room. This allows you to create a home that looks and also is simply wonderful. Towels in bathrooms and bedding in bedrooms can make all the difference here too and really lift a home.

Be Unique

Choose what you like. This is the most important part of the design process. After all, it is your home and it should be personal to you. So, if you see something you like then go and get it. Indulge in your passions and create a house you can be proud of.

Houses are about making you comfortable and as it's yours it should reflect this need. Don't purchase the latest zany item or the newest fad - simply be yourself and your home will shine.
