Parties are fun - well, obviously. Fortunately, the food reflects the mood and there's a lot of exciting and colourful foods out there suitable for people of all types, with preferences of all kinds.

Livening up your party doesn't have to be hard and your cooking skills don't even have to be great to put smiles on people's faces. Here are some of our favourite foods for those fun occasions - many of which can be gotten on city deals.

Macaroons

Macaroons come in all shades, sizes and colours and are also extremely versatile in terms of taste. Created originally by the Amish people, these little burger shaped cakes with cream in the centre are a tasty and colourful treat for children and children's parties.

One of their benefits is that they are small and bite sized and so can be easily eaten by little ones quite easily. This isn't always a truth with cake which can result in more being on the ground when eating than actually in the person's mouth.

These little delights are tasty, easy to make and also small enough for the smallest of hands, yet big enough for the tastiest of appetites.

Cupcakes cake

Cupcakes may be a little in the past in terms of cool foods. However, a little creativity can make all the difference with these mini cakes. Why not stack up all your mini cupcakes and make a big cake. Combining different flavours and colours can allow you to perform all sorts of creativity and really allow you to impress.

For example a mixture of green cupcakes and others can be used to create a very interesting football like cake. Children can then pick their favourite flavours - meaning everyone is happy.

It's also possible to pile them high to attractive effect and really impress people. Why not add some sprinkles or some other nice food stickers to really give them the effect that will make others go wow. Of course, you can always get a bakery to make them and remember deal of the day sites like living social deals have them all the time, allowing you to save some money but keep the best in taste.

Cake pops

Everyone loves the lollipop and everyone loves cake - so, why has it taken so long for both to combine into a cake pop. These tasty cakes on sticks look like a pop but also are essentially a cake.

Choose from any shape or flavour you would have with a normal cake and place them on the end of a stick. These cakepops are a very popular choice with children and adults alike. The younger group like them due to their manageability, while the latter like them for their attractive and slightly quirky look. Pick anything from plain old Victoria Sponge to Mocha and choc delicacies.

Caterpillar Cake

It can be hard to beat the old caterpillar cake. However, numerous bakeries are offering their own take on this children's favourite. Look out for Cork deals or deals around the country offering a range of flavours colours and sizes that vary from the traditional for this birthday cake.
