HTC One X vs Samsung Galaxy

Like Best and Pele, Nadal and Federer and Senna and Prost, there's always going to be different opinions on whose better at something. These days one of the biggest points of comparison is the smart phone and though we're not having the iPhone against Android debate again, there still is a score to settle.

The two new quad core HTC and Samsung phones, the One X and Galaxy SIII respectively provide the debate - so which is better?

Well on paper the two devices look quite similar - quad core processors, big displays and an Android Ice-cream sandwich operating system. However, when you look closer there are strengths and weaknesses and which mobile plan they are on you might be inclined towards one of the phone deals over another.

Screens

Both devices have large screens, though the SIII just shades it with a 4.8 to the One's 4.7inch display, however in weight the match point goes to the HTC as it weighs 3g shy of the 133g Samsung. The HTC and Samsung also look quite different and the latter is softer with curved edges, the HTC though is more traditional and comes with the infamous HTC unibody aluminium body from one piece of metal. The Samsung is made from a polycarbonate plastic and but the HTC does feel that bit sturdier for its troubles when you compare phones.

Performance

Though the One X has a bigger 1.5GHz quad core chip to that of the 1.4GHz Samsung, results show it is fact slower in benchmarking. Not that this makes a significant difference as both phones are capable of doing everything from streaming HD video to running multiple apps and games at once.

These processors look impressive and future proof the phones, while also provide sufficient power for the hefty displays.

The HTC has a slightly higher pixel density, though its AMOLED screen looks fantastic, though that said both are pretty awesome looking displays.

Operating Systems

Both devices run the same Android 4.0 operating system, though there are differences as Samsung and HTC bot had their own takes. Samsung's Touchwiz and HTC's Sense offer different Android experiences. HTC's is barer than Samsung's and has less of a mix of the good and bad. Samsung does have some silly pointless additions, but also has cool ones like its Siri competing S Voice service - which is cool but not as comprehensive as Siri. Other Samsung additions like its NFC based S-Beam service for sending data quickly are good. But there's a lot of junk on there too and the HTC shades it by just being straighter to the point and of the few apps and additions it offers, nearly all are excellent.

Camera

Both devices have 8mp rear cameras with 1.3mp frontal cameras for voice calling. Both are quite similar and the SIII may offer slightly better lower light images, however it's the focus that did it for us and the Samsung nailed focus faster than the HTC.

HTC's camera is quite cool though and allows you to take photos when videoing in HD and also to take 99 shot bursts of images by just holding down the camera button - which is quite cool. So, the choice is great photos vs. very good photos with amazingly cool tech.

Battery

One of the biggest issues with smart phones is battery life and when compared on benchmarks the SIII comprehensively beat the HTC. Advantage Samsung!

The Samsung also allows you to expand memory up to 32GB on top of its 16GB internal memory - the HTC doesn't, but does come with 32GB of memory. Both come with 25GB Dropbox cloud allowances for files which is great for data on the go.

Overall

All in all both are great phones and as you'd expect there's little if anything to choose between them. However, when you compare phones the Samsung just takes it. Though the HTC is awesome and has a great camera and phone deals, the Samsung is faster, has better battery life and is just a great phone. However, it's really down to personal preference, there's just that little in it. So, take your time, research and choose the phone of your deals.

From pizza to pasta to meat dishes, Italian food really offers something many other sorts of foods don't. It's always nice to have an Italian that offers that air of friendly family service and provides you with the hospitality that makes it a different experience. Weird Beauty Treatments

People go to some extravagant lengths to look great and some of the things people do to look great are a real testament to the human obsession with looking beautiful and staying young. However, it seems that for every ten moisturisers there are some far crazier options to keep you looking great and ensure you remain beautiful.

In the olden days people used all sorts of aids. From the Egyptians who used to place crocodile dung on their faces to others who used to use lead based face masks, there's no end to human weirdness in beauty terms. Here are some of our favourites you won't see on Wahanda.

Snake Venom Cream

The toxins that are made in the poisons of some of the world's deadliest snakes are often included in some of the world's most expensive facial creams. The theory is that the venom paralyses the muscles and causes it to produce a similar effect to Botox and other similar treatments. The whole procedure however is meant to be less invasive than the aforementioned and is taken from farmed cobras from Brazil. These snakes are milked for venom for use in this strange and dangerous seeming treatment.

Placenta Wrinkle cream

Another of the one's you're less likely to see in the London deals pages, but Placenta cream is created from bovine placenta and us meant to moisturise the skin and prevent wrinkles. Some company's even use the plant placenta and even human placentas. The trend is now around for over 80 years and it is thought that the nutrient rich piece of the anatomy has a number of hormones that benefit cells. In some cases this is seen as an unproven medical claim and the creams are not available in many countries in the world.

Bull Semen Hair Treatment

Looking for shiny smooth hair, well this could be the answer. Why not ask your hair dresser to massage this substance in your hair. Better again wait for a Wowcher deal to come along with such a treatment. The logic is that hair is made from protein and bull semen can add a protective layer around the hair and keep it healthy. Of course, it's a bit weird but it is the ultimate source of concentrated protein. Will you go to such lengths for beauty?

Bird Poo Facial

We've already mentioned the Egyptians and poo, now it's the turn of the Japanese. This massage therapy for the face made from nightingale droppings and an enzyme found in it called guanine is the perfect item for exfoliating the skin. It's been used by geishas for hundreds of years and though not Oil of Olay, is very popular. It costs a pretty penny too and you may pay up to £150 for the treatment. However, your face may end up smoother and softer than ever before.

Leech Therapy

Looking for a detox, well using leeches is a new way to do so. These leeches have been used for nearly 1000 years to detox people and also help people recover from surgery. From varicose veins to blood clots, these leeches are said to help by stimulating blood flow and aid recovery. It's a bit adventurous mind you and you'll have to go to Austria to have it done - not for London deals so.

Snail Slime

Snails regenerate their shells through the slime they use and their cream is often used as part of creams for regeneration. The creams are used for everything from acne to stretch marks and have a range of antioxidant and antibacterial qualities. It's the perfect answer to snail's problems and the perfect way to get your face back in shape, albeit in a quite unorthodox manner.

Understanding How to Pick a Mobile Phone

Though it's easy to advise a person to choose a certain phone; simply understanding what to look out for when choosing a device can make the whole process a lot easier. Just like teaching the man to fish, rather than giving him a giving him a fish, knowing what to look for in a new phone can make choosing all the easier and mean you won't have to run around asking store staff for advice. So, what should you look for when getting a new smart phone and looks for the best mobile phone deals?

Processor

The processor or the brains of the mobile phone is a very important part of the device. This is often split into two categories as a rough guide. The first one is processor speed and is measured in clock speed known as megahertz or gigahertz. The second is cores; this is essentially the number of processors, or brains.

Phones nowadays generally have single, dual (two) or quad cores (four) and then. Obviously, the higher the clock speed and more cores the faster the device. However, you can experience overkill too and there are very few people and currently no applications that really need a quad core processor. Even though, it's extremely desirable, it's just not necessary.

However, we would say look for a phone that has at least 1GHz and if you are expecting to run games and use your phone for a lot of apps, perhaps consider a dual core phone.

Screen

The screen you choose when you pick up mobile phone deals is also very important and there is a wide disparity between the quality of the screens on offer. Some phones use what are known as TFT screens, these are generally available on low cost phones and though they are fine, they are nothing when compared to some of the more spectacular screens other there.

For example the retina display, which is available on the Apple iPhone offers a very high quality screen and a notably large pixel density (number of dots that make up a picture). In a phone comparison there is not similarity between a retina display and a TFT and the iPhone will win hands down.

Some other manufacturers use AMOLED screens - these screens offer fantastic brightness and are perfect for using outdoors as there is little glare. The QHD screen is also a good bet though is perhaps slightly less attractive than the AMOLED or Retina display.

Size

Resolution is also important and you should look for a resolution that's as high as possible, especially with the increasing size of phones.

Many phones offer near 5inch screens, which seems colossal, but dependent on the phone's build and style may not seem as large as you'd expect. Large screens provide great video viewing opportunities but the phone is also less compact because of this.

Slimness is also a significant factor and there is often competition between manufacturers for the slimmest phone. This obviously reduces a phone's in-pocket size, which is something sought after by a lot of people. Of course, deciding on a phone you like the look of is a vital part of phone comparison - so make sure to check them out in-store before committing to buying one.

Operating Systems

Just as with Windows and Mac - choosing an operating system is also an important part of a picking a phone. Android is Google's attempt and available on the majority of phones nowadays. Apple uses something called IOS, which is also excellent. There are also the BlackBerry and Windows operating systems though these don't have as many apps as the aforementioned operating systems and are less common.

Camera

Of course, if you take a lot of photos the camera on your phone is also important - 5mp is quite common nowadays, with many devices having 8mp and some even up to 12mp and above. Check out the sensor the phone has too as this can be important for image quality as can the level of the backlight, especially for those night photos.

This is just a basic run down of things to consider, however also look at reviews, contract prices and compare mobile phones of the best deals.

UK's Top Track Days

If you're looking for fun then it's hardly easier to find anything that offers more thrills than a track day. The UK is a country filled with car nuts and fortunately, plenty of racing tracks. This means that it's also a great place for those who love racing to try out their motors or even use track days to try someone else's out. So, what are the best track days in the UK?

Supercar for 1

Giving a man the power of a supercar for a whole day to race around three different tracks may be something of a heaven like experience for some. Choosing from a Ferrari, Lamborghini or Audi R8 can be tough, but you're sure to have more fun that you've had for about the last decade or so on the go.

Take a drive on some of the country's best tracks and see what lies before you as you hit those horses. Controlling a car at high speed takes a lot of skill and that's why all of these days provide you with expert driving instruction from some of the luckiest people on earth.

Rally

One of the best track days for petrol heads is often a rally track day. Though not on tarmac, you get the chance to take control of a rally car and drive around some of the loose roads available across the UK.

Whether a rally classic like the Subaru Impreza or something a little less in the horse power steaks you'll always remember your first drift. Such track days are often available on the likes of Living social and really provide you with some of the best fun you're likely to have for a long time. It's fun, it's fast and it's a completely different experience from driving a supercar.

Touring Cars

There's something wonderful about driving a completely overpowered production car that's made for the track. These four door cars may look quite familiar from the motor way or the local supermarket; however they provide a completely different experience for those looking to race.

Often available on the likes of Goodwood and Silverstone, you can drive like those from the TV as you hit speeds of over 150 miles per hour in cars with up to 300bhp. It's a different way of taking your Honda or Vauxhall for a drive.

Bike powered Cars

One of the great things about some of the light weight bike powered cars is that they provide high speed thrills in a very lightweight and often extremely flexible and quick frame. These cars don't have the roll that is caused by weight and come with high powered, extremely light bike engines from some of the world's superbikes.

This can be the closest thing you get to drive a Formula racing car of some class or another and really means you can nail those corners at high speeds. KGBDeals and Living social quite often have deals on these track days, which are among the most exciting you're likely to find.

Formula 3000 Track Days

Taking the wheel of a single seated car is something of a thrill. Unlike many of the other cars which are all generally road going takes on a racing car, Formula level cars are something else. These machines are highly tuned and meant only for racing. This makes them the purest experience of racing that is on offer from track days. If you want to experience anything like the speed Formula 1 racing drivers experience, this is as close as it comes. Many of these deals often even include trips in double seated converted Formula One cars that are driven by highly trained drivers. This can be the best chance you'll ever get to experience the sheer power and Gs you see on TV and is a fantastic experience from offer a day deals .

The Pastimes of Boys and Men

Getting out and about with the boys in an environment that allows you a certain amount of devilment is something of a necessity. We all need to blow off steam and fortunately, city deals allow us to do it nowadays at a lower cost than was previously the case.

Amazingly, being a lad means doing the same things you did as a child, generally only with a motor, engine or more power behind you. The expectation we've all matured can often be taken with a pinch of salt, but then again, let it! So, what are the best activities for big boys?

Track Days

When we were small many of us had a toy plastic tractor or a pedal go cart we used to speed around our homes on. There was a certain Grand Prix feel of over taking your cousin beside the gable of the house. Nowadays we have track days from Livingsocial deals, which allow you to turn that Matchbox car you once owned into a reality.

Track days are amazing for a number of reasons. Firstly, they allow you to get behind a car you may not earn enough for in five years. They also allow you the chance to thrash around a track you may have seen Michael Schumacher last on and take corners you've heard about since boyhood.

Finally, and most importantly, they also allow us to feel a sensation of speed we otherwise would never experience under our control. It's all very well doing 75mph down the dual carriageway in a Vauxhall Vectra; however doing so in a Ferrari on a track is a different story and an exciting one too.

Paint Balling

From sticks, to plastic guns with flint behind a piece of red semi-transparent plastic; we've all played army in different ways. Paint balling is army for big boys and really is a different dynamic from that of sticks and imaginary bullets

From kitting yourself out in overalls and a helmet to getting a gun that fires ammunition, to shooting your mates, it's very different. However, for most of us the same sensation takes over and we find ourselves giddy with delight as we run around from place to place, shooting people with neon coloured paint capsules and playing get the flag.

For those who love paint balling city deals can be a great way to do so cheaply. Many places waive nearly the entire initial fee and you only have to pay for the bullet, which of course means the meaner the shot the less you have to pay.

Beer Tasting

What is there more masculine than beer - the nectar of the gods according to some and they're probably right. Going on a beer tasting trip with your friends is the logical leap from trying to decipher whether you preferred Lilt or Fanta.

With so many new beers arriving every year from around the world; beer tasting is an exercise for the gentleman - well the first few anyway.

From super strong Belgian beers to African ones, there's so much to try and so much to taste. Take for instance the beers that specialise in being as strong as or stronger than spirits, or beers than are infused with fruit - you'd nearly be giddy at the thought of it. It's a great way to spend some time with your mates and whether it's trying it out with Dublin deals in Ireland or in any of the other cities around - it's a great day out and often the start of a fantastic night on the town.

It's only natural to get out and about with the lads for some fun and a bit of manly behaviour. Fortunately, for many of us our tastes aren't too complex and we can manage to really suffer on with little more than a slight change from our boyhood pastimes, albeit as we said with a bigger engine or a higher alcohol content.

How to Choose Broadband

Picking the correct broadband can be a matter of peace and contentment or one of frustration. Like anything that you accept as already there and working, choosing the wrong broadband can be a nightmare.

They say you never know what you're missing until it's gone and anyone who's had a bad experience with broadband will completely agree. Whether Mobile Broadband or other broadband, if the service is poor it can be a real irritation. So, what should you look for in your broadband to avoid such issues and problems?

Coverage

Understanding what the coverage in your area is like before signing up for a service is crucial and can make the difference between your broadband being good or simply not. There are numerous sites and providers that will allow you to see the strength of the signal in and around your area. These websites don't provide an exact science, however they can be a good start and offer you a good impression of what the area is like.

There may also be things that can impact on your signal and these are sure to cause unforeseen issues. Also remember that if choosing Mobile Broadband a good mobile phone signal is not a sign of a good Mobile Broadband signal. One of the best ways to try out Mobile Broadband is to use the 7 day cooling off period and if not satisfied return it and finish the contract.

Mobile or Broadband

Deciding on whether you want mobile or fixed can be down to whether you will be moving about and also the size of the files you want to download. Large files will eat up data allowances on Mobile Broadband, whereas fixed broadband is fixed - so decide on what you're looking for before you approach anyone.

Speeds

Speeds are something else of significance and greatly differ depending on the geographical area you are in. They often vary depending on the time of the day; however make use of any cooling off period if not satisfactory. Also remember that the speeds are often only up to speeds and not a constant. If you are paying for 50GB broadband speeds and the area you live in only goes to 5mb then you're being duped - be aware of this when deciding on which broadband.

Cost

Of course, cost is also a significant factor and if you have to pay through the nose for your broadband check out and see the competitions available. When picking wither standard or Mobile Broadband, be aware that some providers really offer cheap costs and others high costs.

If picking Mobile Broadband ensure sure a dongle is included in the deal as these can be quite expensive. Some companies also supply access to their Wi-Fi hotspots, which can really lower the incidence of data usage.

Also consider this against reliability, the value for money you get and if you are looking into which Broadband to take, consider the impact of the price of extra data which isn't in the contract. This is usually charged at a high per MB rate and can really mean huge charges when you get your bill. If you think you are going to overspend on data and there is a large allowance - go for it as you will otherwise pay far more in the long term.

Contract Length

The length of the contract is also a very important consideration and can really be important for those not so confident in their broadband, or who may get a better service in time from a different provider. Companies will also try and get you to pay for longer contacts, so make sure you know the contract length, whether you can upgrade service or even renegotiate should a change come about. Remember 24 months is a long time.

Abroad

If you are using your broadband abroad or in a different country, you have to see what the network charges will be. These can often be huge, so beware of this when choosing a package as this can really add to the price.

By looking into all of the above you can be sure you'll get the best broadband available.
